Protea Awards

The Protea Awards is an annual event for recognition of the top six dancers in pre-determined age groups. The aim of this challenge is promote excellence and participation in Highland Dancing events. Scottish National Dance Premiership events are excluded. Only Premier grade dancers qualify for points in either section or Championship competitions. 

Four age groups are applicable: 

  • Under 12 years 
  • 12 – 15 years 
  • 16 – 17 years 
  • 18 years and over

Dancers’ age is determined as the age at the date of competition and a dancer may be nominated in two age groups. Winners are decided on accumulated points during a calendar year. Dancers accumulate points at competitions in all regions.

Points are awarded to the dancers who finish  in the top 6 at each competition 

1st – 137

2nd – 91

3rd – 71

4th – 53

5th – 37

6th – 23
